I didn't have any furniture other than a mattress for ages and ages. It took a few months for my stuff to get shipped from HK, and then one day I realized that my apartment door was much narrower than standard. After borrowing a measuring tape off one of my neighbours, I discovered that there was no way that my couch was going to fit through the door. Oops.
So then I had a long battle with my landlord. I wanted him to change the door out for me, but he wanted me to just try moving and seeing what the movers could do to wiggle things in. If I had listened to him, I would have been stuck with my sofa blocking the hallway probably. In the end I had to kick in money to get the door changed, even though I wouldn't be taking the door with me when I leave, and it will help his future tenants. At least I have the nicest door in the building now.
The television stand is narrower so it fit no problem. Of course, I don't have a television. For the few shows that I really want to watch, I either catch them at the gym, or off the Internet.
As you can see, there isn't really any space I can use to put up some bookshelves, and in any case I want to move somewhere more permanent before buying any, so I have nowhere to really put books and CDs/DVDs. For now, I've left them in the moving boxes and just lined them up behind the TV stand.
Ideally, I'd like to put the clothing rack parallel to the window so it dries laundry more effectively, but if I did that, I'd have no place to put my bike. I think in the center of the room it would get in the way and I'd knock it over all the time.
More boxes of stuff... Actually, these are mostly empty, but I wanted to keep the boxes for my next move and to keep the foam inserts for the air conditioner box.
Finally, a new shot of my closet. I was really glad to get this closet organizer thing set up again. It works great for unstructured closet space.
